Porch of the Elephants - Siem Reap Province
The Terrace of the Elephants is a piece of the walled city of Angkor Thom. The porch was utilized by lord Jayavarman VII as a stage from which to view his triumphant returning armed force. It was connected to the royal residence of Phimeanakas. A large portion of the first structure was made of natural material and has since a long time ago vanished and the vast majority of what remains are the establishment stages of the complex. The patio is named for the carvings of elephants on its eastern side.
The 350m-long Terrace of Elephants was utilized as a monster looking into stand for open functions and served as a base for the ruler's excellent group of onlookers corridor. It has five outworks amplifying towards the Central Square-three in the middle and one at every end. The center segment of the holding divider is brightened with life size garudas and lions; towards either end are the two sections of the well known parade of elephants complete with their Khmer mahouts.
